With the summer vacation coming to an end, schools in Goa will re-open in the first week of June. The usual hustle and bustle will once again be seen along the roads especially near the schools.
What comes to mind is the alarming rate of road accidents taking place on a daily basis. Police department should have a plan in place for smooth flow of traffic especially on the first few days of school when parents come to drop their children.
It is important that there are policemen stationed near schools to ensure that rules are not broken. The police should also clamp down heavily on those breaking the rules.
In Chandor, the police were requested to be present before and after school but after a few days they failed to make their presence felt by giving various excuses.
It is time the men-in-uniform fan out across the State especially at key junctions and prominent locations and clamp down on traffic violations and also strictly enforcing the new challans that come into force from June 1.
