The roads dotted with craters continue to burn holes in the pockets of two-wheeler and car owners in the city. Lack of signboards, potholed roads, defunct signals and unlit junctions have not only made commuting during the monsoons a nightmare but also put the lives of motorists in the state at risk. The state authorities are turning a blind eye to the danger that motorists and pedestrians face. People need to start filing complaints with the authorities and even with the consumer court so that action can be initiated.
The Goa government is treating the dangerous road conditions very casually, either by blaming the incessant rains or shamelessly denying that potholes can cause road accidents. The potholed roads signify a criminal waste of public funds. Citizens too need to introspect on their own negligence of their fundamental duties as enshrined in the Constitution of India before attempting to discipline the government. Potholes on roads are a reflection of that Goan hypocrisy which curses the politicians but elects them back to power. Pathetic voters crying foul and still the same will remain in power in 2022.
