It will indeed be sad if Portugal decides to stop granting Portuguese citizenship to Goans born before 1961 and their descendants.
Goa has always been a money order economy before Liberation and things haven't changed after that which many Goans considered an invasion.
Jobs are hard to come by and those who are employed are paid low wages. Goans are forced to leave Goa to earn better salaries from times immemorial.
The present craze of applying for Portuguese citizenship is not a craze as citizens of Goa, Daman and Diu are applying for Portuguese citizenship out of fear. Many Goans say that they fear for their lives and of the lives of their families.
Various developments in the last ten years have made them fear for the future. Portugal doesn't have large investments in Asia and hence they shouldn't worry about antagonising any Asian country. It should continue with their policy of granting citizenship.
Self preservation and the protection of loved ones is enshrined in the 'Right to Life.'
