While inaugurating the road repair work in the Pilerne Industrial Estate, Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, Chairman of Goa Industrial Development Corporation (Goa-IDC), stated that the roads in Goa’s eight industrial estates would be using the white topping technology. The task would be done in phases without affecting the movement of people and goods. He added that the roads will be pot-hole free and will last for 25 years. The estimated cost is Rs 85 crore and is part of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MoRTH-S&R Zone). It is understandable that industrial estates need better and smoother roads for quick and efficient delivery and transport of the products. But once the trucks exit from the estate, enroute to their various destinations, the vehicles would be driven on roads riddled with pot-holes. When the MoRTH has a soft corner for the industrial estates, why cannot it consider the citizens’ hardships and use the white topping technology for most of the roads and highways in the country? It would help to save time and fuel and in turn the environment.
