Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar has taken a sudden U-turn on the issue of a 20% electricity tariff hike. He now says the increase is only for industrial consumers and not domestic users, and blamed the media for “wrong information”. However, this statement was recorded and reported by media channels. Before the elections, Sudin had stated he would not join the BJP, but after the results he changed his stand and became part of the BJP-led government. His political history shows that he often shifts support to whichever party is in power, which raises questions about his priorities and commitment to the public. It is hard to understand why voters in his constituency continue to support him election after election when many believe stronger leadership is needed. The MGP also continues to speak in favour of Marathi over Konkani, which concerns many Goans who value Konkani as their mother tongue.
Meanwhile, several basic issues remain unresolved. Many highways and village roads lack proper street lighting, leading to serious accidents involving both people and animals. States with smart meters are already facing higher bills, and Goans are strongly raising their voice that they do not want this burden here. Is the ruling government working in the interest of the public or private business interests? Goa needs leaders who listen to the people.
