Protecting our environment for future

There is no doubt that climate change is for real and is is time we citizens and the government also get real. Awareness is gradually creeping into the minds of people, judging from the resistance put up by them on several environmental issues. There are several ways one can contribute towards protecting the environment and one of them is to change over to electric vehicles. The government's initiative in encouraging the switchover to electric vehicles should be welcomed.

The editorial 'Electric vehicles: can this solve all our problems? dated Dec 6' poses a relevant question, can electric vehicles solve all our problems? Of course not, this step of changing over to electric vehicles by itself will not solve our environmental issues. The state governments all over the country must also review their infrastructure projects which are damaging the ecological systems of the region. They need to stop the destruction of mangroves in cities like Mumbai which seems to be going on at a rapid pace.The need of the hour is to stop all our destructive activities and this applies both, to the citizens and the authorities.

In a few days from now Goa will complete 60 years of its liberation.
