The controversy over the rejection of the Republic Day tableaux from non-BJP ruled States like West Bengal, Kerala and Tamil Nadu is hitting the roof. The theme for the tableaux is celebrating the contribution of freedom fighters. Thus it is surprising when the Bengal tableau on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose commemorating simultaneously his 125th year birth anniversary was not accepted. Similarly Tamil Nadu's tableau highlighting its freedom fighters has also been rejected. So also the Kerala tableau was rejected that highlighted Narayana Guru's reform contributions to civil society. All these tableaux need be accepted for the Republic Day parade. The government is yet again showing its biased and parochial stand on such matters which defies logic and common sense. Actually what can you expect from the BJP and the Saffron Parivar who are unable to come up with even a single name of a freedom fighter from their ranks who fought for India's freedom and had gone to jail under British rule, except maybe Veer Savarkar whose contribution is also clouded in controversy of being a collaborator in the last years of his incarceration in the Andamans.
