The situation is worsened by Karnataka diverting Goa’s water lifeline. Without proper control, Goa will face severe water shortages, especially during summer. The government and PWD have not taken necessary steps like building new dams or expanding existing ones to secure the water supply. Instead of making empty statements in the assembly, the government must conduct surveys and plan effectively. Goans should also consider using fresh water from wells to reduce dependence on public supply.
The unchecked construction boom, driven by the builders’ mafia, is destroying Goa’s environment. The government seems more interested in profits than addressing the concerns of its people. NGOs continue to highlight these issues, but those who raise their voices are often silenced with false complaints. If this trend continues, Goa’s smallest state status will soon face the biggest water crisis. The government must act now to protect Goa’s future.
