Recently the Health Minister Vishwajit Rane warned private hospitals over delay in shifting critically-ill patients to GMC after exhausting DDSY medical insurance which was unfortunate. There are many doctors with impeccable ethical records. However, there are many others -- not so ethical, and their number is on the rise who don’t think twice before taking their patients for a ride. Some hospitals in India are hell bent on extracting money from patients. The hospitals having inadequate safety equipment thrive on human distress. Hospitals have become a real estate industry and instead of providing succour to patients in distress fleece them. Some private hospitals are generating bills according to their whims and fancies even during crisis period. There needs a system to be put in place which will prevent hospitals from ‘fleecing’ distressed people. Even one Bollywood movie was made on this topic, "Gabbar is Back", which was a bitter truth of Indian hospital industry.
