The Calangute beach circle looks very beautiful, and this improvement was much needed. However, the large display of the name Rai Chandani has disappointed many locals in Calangute and across Goa. People feel that a sponsor’s name should appear only on the foundation stone, not written in big letters on the circle itself.
Goans are asking the Calangute Village Panchayat and MLA Michael Lobo to name the circle simply as the Calangute beach circle by removing the sponsor’s name from the structure. We respect the sponsor, but the circle should not be known by his name. It should carry a name that reflects the village and its people. I hope the Sarpanch and MLA Lobo correct this in the public interest. Please do not bring politics into this.
