Revocation of clearance for hillock devpt good news

This is with reference to "TCP revokes technical clearance for land development on hillock in Cuncolim - The Goan Everyday January 21, 2023." That must sound like some good news for environmentalists and the public at large. This order of revoking the technical clearance for land development on the hill, is significant in view of the environmental crisis the world is facing today. In simple terms, what one understands, is that the hill is being cut for development. This is what is called, playing with Nature. Whether it is a hillock in Goa or in Mumbai or anywhere in the country, or cutting down forests in Mumbai and elsewhere, we forget we are inviting environmental disaster. In Mumbai, slums have encroached on several hills and when there is a landslide during the monsoon, we have a disaster on our hands. How far can we go on playing with Nature? There is a saying, 'let sleeping dogs lie'. Why unnecessarily invite disaster upon ourselves?

The recent fire at a paint factory, the worst in Goa’s history, must act as an eye-opener. Environmental and noise pollution should be a matter of concern to all. The government needs to totally ban all fireworks in the best interests of protecting the wellbeing of the population from air and noise pollution.
