I was absolutely dismayed by the RGP leadership breaking away from the united opposition effort against the BJP. Having followed Goan political parties and prominent leaders for many years now I am certainly aware of their shortcomings and major flaws particularly of Congress and Goa Forward parties. But even saying the latter, I wonder if the RGP top leadership's actual intent is to help BJP or to dislodge it from power. We have examples from many constituencies like Sanquelim for example where if not for RGP vote split, the current CM would have not got elected in the first place. Another example was Dabolim where RGP surely should have known that they had absolutely no chance of winning and putting a candidate would have ultimately helped the BJP MLA. Could RGP leadership not have looked at the bigger picture for Goa and found a middle ground with some compromises instead of abandoning the alliance all together? No way any single party can alone defeat the BJP and AAP and RGP need to swallow their pride, control their egos and accept this ground reality currently in Goa.
