The recent backlash against a satirical comedy routine targeting politicians has exposed a disturbing trend in our society. The reactions from supporters of the politician, coupled with the actions of law enforcement and the views expressed by the concerned politician, point to a legally unfair conclusion -- one that reeks of bullying culture. The investigation into electoral bonds revealed that contributors had a history of ED raids, while politicians who switched parties, particularly to join the ruling party, had ongoing criminal and financial irregularity cases that were conveniently closed in their favour. A personal experience highlights this brazen disregard for the law. Recently, the electricity department dug up my vaddo road to lay cables for a transformer without a work order. An RTI inquiry revealed that the proposer and approver was the South Goa head of the electricity department, and no NOC was obtained -- not even from the residents who were supposed to benefit. Similarly, the decision to change the academic year for schools was made without consulting stakeholders. It's time for us to acknowledge that this bullying culture is a threat to our democracy and our fundamental rights.
