This issue of Sancoale church should have been settled long back without having to raise it up in the House. It is clear case of instigation by vested interests to create a rift among the communities which existed and lived in harmony for centuries. Politicians raking up this issue in the assembly can create more harm than good. May be the Speaker should have not accepted this discussion of politicians in the House and left it to be a police matter for action against the instigators.
When this Sancoale monument is in the custody of ASI it should not necessary to interfere in such a delicate issue. Why are police and other local authorities not squashing the potential issue?
And now that it was brought up by Independent Cortalim MLA Antonio Vaz, why did the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant not intervene and given a better explanation in the press? Otherwise he says instigation against religion harmony is bad. Now his colleague says the Church is under attack and all he said was 'noted'. Let me say that this edifice is a protected monument in the custody of ASI. Strict action must be taken against trespassers and anyone fomenting communal tension.
