Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's contradiction of NITI Aayog's employment figures is surprising, given the background that the agency serves as an apex public policy think tank of the central government and having been tasked with catalyzing economic development.
Instead of merely faulting the agency, Sawant should have been more articulate and presented the exact count of those unemployed. Ironically, the government does not have real-time data to make statements on joblessness and is relying on a theory of "generalisation". Moreover, against the thousands of jobs that have been promised via the IPB route, very few have had success. The recent mega job fair is another example where a mere 500 jobs were being processed against the promise of 4,000-plus job creation.
The assurances and promises of employment have been hollow bringing anguish and desperation among the populace. Sawant must allow the statistics to do the talking, instead of making misleading statements.
