The Indian government is in a tizzy over former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey's revelations that it had threatened to shut down the social media giant's operations in India and raid homes of it's employees unless the platform deleted posts relating to the farmers' protests and other content. It is to remembered that the former IT minister Ravishankar Prasad was at war almost on a daily basis with the platform. He ultimately had to be sacked as his 'tamashas' had become a huge embarrassment to India on the world stage. Even after heaping accusations on Twitter day in day out, the sarkar didn't ban the platform since it itself had weaponised it to suppress dissent, crush ideologically differing voices, spread misinformation and propagate its toxic bigoted agenda. It is on record that the BJP government filed the maximum number of 'takedown' requests in the world pertaining to tweets which were supposedly inimical to the saffron dispensation. If Twitter is in breach of Indian laws and is guilty on all counts it is accused of, why not ban it altogether in India? This government has scored another self goal.
