Stray cattle on the roads has become a serious problem in the village of Adpai in Ponda. Cattle on the main road is proving to be a great danger for two-wheeler riders and other motorists. The bovines are often seen squatted on the road adjacent to the Goa State Cooperative Bank Ltd in this locality. The situation tends to be a hindrance for travellers proceeding along the main road towards the Adpai jetty. Cattle often occupy the road at ‘Dessai-Bhat’ area as also the entrance of some houses in this jurisdiction. The menace is noticed outside the premises of the local village panchayat of Adpai-Durbhat. Over the years, this menace continues to be a danger to human lives. However, it is rather strange to note that this VP as a competent authority has not yet initiated any favourable action to deal with this serious menace. The local MLA Sudin Dhavalikar too has not followed up on this important matter. Even the Directorate of Panchayats has not been monitoring the situation. This competent authority needs to issue a fresh circular to the VPs to build cattle pounds in their respective jurisdictions. Panchayats failing to oblige must be taken to task without any discrimination.
