This is with reference to "Celebrating festivals: our common humanity - Ranjan Solomon - The Goan Everyday April 5, 2023." That was a good presentation from Solomon, a noted political commentator, writer, and human rights activist, on the celebration of various festivals in our country.
Our country as is known, is a melting pot for diverse cultures, castes, communities, religions, etc. And generally, there has been peace among all communities while celebrating various religious festivals. As Solomon says, festivals of all religious communities are a time for shared celebration, thanksgiving, and joyous outpouring for the people. There is a thread that binds our common humanity. The recent festivals have unfortunately sparked riots, we need to overcome this situation. We cannot afford to let our country be divided on religious lines, that would be the most dangerous thing that could happen to our country. However, it must be noted that the large majority of our fellowmen have no issues with the celebration of festivals. Those stray elements who foment disturbances ought to be contained.
