Former RSS Chief Subhash Velingkar visited Bicholim Police Station on 10th October, as ordered by the High Court, and returned the following morning after being summoned. He told reporters that he had fully cooperated with the investigation and provided all necessary information to the police.
Despite Velingkar’s widely circulated live video where he made offensive remarks against St Francis Xavier, the Goa Police seem to be protecting him, treating him like a VIP, and allowing him to justify his actions instead of taking strict action. What’s troubling is that CM Pramod Sawant, known for reacting quickly to issues involving Catholic priests, has yet to clearly condemn Velingkar’s comments. Is it because Velingkar is a former RSS chief? Or is this an attempt to distract Goans from real issues like unemployment and land protests? The BJP government has shown where it stands on minority issues by pressuring the police not to arrest Velingkar, even though a case has been registered against him under Section 299 of BNS for his deliberate, offensive remarks. This shows how little the government truly cares about Goa’s secularism. Shame on the BJP government and Goa Police.
