Swachcha Goa: Clear nullah at Varkhandem on priority

Although the state administration has introduced ‘Swachcha Goa Mission’ during recent years, scenes of scattered garbage tend to be a regular phenomenon at various locations in the state. The concerned competent authorities at the respective jurisdictions often fail to assure clearance of garbage at the appropriate time. In Ponda, we often come across scattered garbage along road sides and also inside the drains and nullahs from time to time. At the old bus stand, plastic bags and other waste is being dumped at a corner and the situation tends to be an eyesore for travellers and pedestrians too. The much needed dustbin has not been provided at this strategic area and hence situation in this regard remains unchanged. Similarly, the drains and nullahs too remain uncleared for long. The same are cleared annually only during the pre-monsoon work. Seen in the picture is scattered garbage inside the nullah situation adjacent to the road leading from Varkhandem junction towards Shree Keshav Dev temple at Upper Bazaar. The situation is rather unhygienic and needs to be improved at once. Since health is wealth, let us hope that prompt favourable action would follow from the concerned authorities in public interest.
