The curtain came down on European football season on Sunday with Manchester City claiming the Champions League title following a 1-0 win over Inter Milan in the final. The Champions League is the culmination of all football leagues in Europe . These leagues along with the Champions League, which is a cash rich tournament, keep people in Europe and around the world rivetted to their TV sets for 10 months. The same format is followed in other continents. I think the time has come for the ICC to spread its wings and popularize the game world wide. The ICC may consider introducing a World Cup T20 tournament for top teams of all national leagues on the lines of the UEFA Champions League on a home and away basis. This will provide a level playing field for all cricket leagues. It will spread the game and make it financially attractive like other leagues including the new UAE and the US MLS leagues. A World Champions League will be a game changer for world cricket.
