Goa is seeing a big increase in garbage that is generated not only from households but also industries.
This garbage falls into rivers which pollutes them and also aggravates the problem of air pollution.
Recently a meeting was held opposite Dona Paula police station where a number of people assembled together with the municipal staff to discuss the issue. Even Health Minister Vishwajit Rane made a token appearance for 5 seconds.
A number of suggestions were put up by the residents of Dona Paula to clear garbage efficiently. However, I am not sure whether the discussions were fruitful as previously also a lot of suggestions were put up by the residents which were never taken into consideration.
If CCP officials and the Commissioner cannot take our suggestions seriously perhaps they should come up with their own ideas in future. This is our perennial problem which has not yet been solved and I fear it is only getting worse.
