Tamhini Ghat logs record rainfall this year

We all know that Cherrapunji in Meghalaya holds the record for the highest rainfall in India, with an average of 9,000 millimetres of rain between June and September each year. However, there is another place that hasn't been officially recognised for its high rainfall: Tamhini Ghat, which connects the Raigad and Pune districts. This year, Tamhini Ghat received 9,800 millimetres of rain in just four months. Four senior meteorologists from Pune have shared this data, covering the last 38 years. Yet, it has not been officially recorded in the climate history. This information was published recently. In 2016, the same researchers presented their findings to the Meteorological Department, but it has not been acknowledged until now.

This is surprising, and the Maharashtra government should take notice of this. It is important to ensure this record is officially recognised by the Meteorological Department, as it is a significant achievement that deserves to be recorded in history.
