The rampant corruption plaguing our country is undeniable, despite denials from various parties. The consequences are evident in our crumbling infrastructure, encroachments, illegal constructions, rising crime rates, collapsing bridges, and frequent accidents. To combat this, prioritizing corruption cases and penalizing those involved is crucial. However, a recent report reveals a concerning trend. Government officials suspended for corruption are being reinstated, citing ongoing investigations and a meager number of bribery cases registered by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) over the past five years. Taxpayers expect basic amenities like good infrastructure, quality education, reliable public transportation, and law and order. Instead of seeking justice, citizens are forced to spend hard-earned money on court cases, despite the presence of a vigilance department. Few cases reach closure, and some actions seem tokenistic. The suspension of the Chief Town Planner after a two-month delay following a High Court petition is a case in point. Corruption has become so normalized that people joke about the criteria for becoming a politician: committing a grave crime. It's time for change. We need tangible action against corruption, not mere lip service.
