Taxi mafia to blame for decline in tourism

The domestic tourists propositioned on beach records harassment and another in taxi scam. The reputation of Goa as a tourist destination has been tarnished following two viral incidents which went viral on social media. Foreigners would desist coming to India if this nuisance is not immediately controlled.  Many people also blame the Goa taxi mafia for the decline in tourism. This is not the first time tourists have had an unpleasant experience. But the government is in sleeping mode yet they will wake up when elections are nearing.  The exploitative transport system is treating tourists as cash cows. This is shameful for Goa’s hospitality industry. On one side the MLA shouts that the public transport system is in shambles. And on the other side, the taxi unions have got the ministers by their throats. Safety and security are vital to providing quality tourism. A lack of safety can deter visitors and negatively impact a destination's economy.  There needs to be constant patrolling in key tourist zones, public spaces, and transport hubs to deter crime. The number of Pink Force patrols in sensitive areas and at night should be increased.
