For Panaji, smart city means clean and good roads, water, electricity and beautification. But this smart city is a bouquet of hits and misses with the latter taking the lion's share. The smart city project work carried out in city has been made life horrible for residents and commercial establishments. Despite the promise of a perfect lifestyle, smart city will end up becoming a sci-fi fantasy if the challenges for smart cities are not resolved at the earliest. People's hopes of comprehensive development has now been replaced with disappointment. Projects have become bane for the people, with deadlines not being met. Life of people in the areas where works are in progress has been affected. It is rumoured there are plans to build another Singapore, but basic parameters have to be addressed first. Now people are comparing this situation to that of, 'stitching a blazer to cover a bare body, when a simple pant and shirt to protect the person's dignity would do.' The kind of project taken up under the Smart City Project also seems to be arbitrary, with no holistic vision for the development of the city.
