It was interesting to see Goa Liberation Day being celebrated officially and at various establishments which is supposed to instill a feeling of pride and accomplishment. I wish to put some candid points to the government and people; around the general question of "Are Goans really liberated?" In the years post liberation, Goa grew to be one of the most corrupt states in an otherwise corrupt country.
Massive destruction of mangroves, hills, forests, trees, agricultural land, beaches and water bodies.
Goa's destiny is being guided mainly Central politicians in service to select crony capitalists who are devastating Goa (including wild life sanctuaries, pristine villages etc) for their greed. In 1961 when India sent forces into Goa, they promised to preserve Goan identity; looking at the reality today we know this was an absolute deceit and Goa is actually being liberated from Goans. Illegal vote banks are being set up and continue to be set up; so as to keep corrupt/incompetent politicians in power!
The actual meaning of Liberation in my view should be for us to work together to have the Goa that we really aspire for.
