The recently concluded Zilla Parishad elections have once again underscored the political reality of Goa: the Bharatiya Janata Party’s juggernaut continues to roll forward with unrelenting force. Securing victories in both North and South Goa, the BJP has not merely won seats”it has silenced dissent against its flagship Mhaje Ghar scheme and reaffirmed its dominance in the state’s political landscape. The Congress, reduced to a paltry 10 seats, finds itself gasping for relevance. Even the oft-repeated allegations of EVM manipulation were rendered moot, as the polls were conducted through paper ballots. Yet, despite this safeguard, the BJP’s tally of 29 seats”slightly lower than the 33 it held previously”remains a commanding majority. The division of votes between the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) proved decisive, tilting the balance in favour of the saffron camp. The Opposition's inability to present a united front or articulate a compelling vision for Goa has left the electorate with little choice but to rally behind the BJP. In the grand theatre of democracy, the BJP plays the role of an unstoppable protagonist, while its rivals languish as mere spectators.
