This is with reference to the report, "Mixed waste washed ashore at Colva, causes nuisance - The Goan Everyday September 25, 2023." Garbage greeting tourists on the beach is certainly a very dirty sight as we could see at Colva Beach. According to the news report, mixed waste was washed ashore by the waves. Besides presenting a dirty sight, one wonders what will happen to the trash that remains when the waves fail to take it all back into the sea. I'm reminded of a similar situation at Gorai beach in Mumbai which I visit on weekends. I was horrified to see all sort of trash like shoes, slippers, plastics items including pens, bottles, backpacks, you name it and it is there, washed ashore. And the worst thing is, a huge amount of grease/oil is washed ashore which poses a danger to people frequenting the beach. Many have slipped and fallen on the grease deposited on the shore and the the rocks alongside. There is one thing that we need to learn from this situation. The sea is not a dumping yard where you can throw anything that you have used or you don't want anymore.
