The location near Shree Maruti temple at Varkhandem in Ponda tends to be a very critical one. Vehicles proceeding from either side of the road often overspeed thereby raising the possibility of mishaps. On previous occasions, many mishaps have taken place at this place. However, no precautionary measures have been introduced to date in order to assure safety to the public at large. The much-required speed-breakers and traffic signboards indicating the prescribed speed limit have been missing thereby turning it into a dangerous spot. Even pedestrian crossing is nowhere to be seen. As a result, pedestrians proceeding along this busy route have been confronted with great risk and danger. At times cars are being parked on either side of the road thereby resulting in a death trap, more so during peak hours. Over the years, no traffic cop has been noticed here for guiding vehicular traffic and also deal with the defaulters. Appropriate measures must be introduced at this sensitive spot so as to assure safety to precious human lives. Traffic signboards and speed-breakers must be put in place so as to achieve normalcy on a permanent basis. Above all, deputing a traffic cop would go a long way in assuring safety of pedestrians and travellers alike. Let us hope that the authorities concerned would consider the difficulties of the public at large and initiate prompt favourable action before the existing situation aggravates further in the days to come. Prompt positive precautionary measures would certainly be appreciated by one and all.
