The recent Baina dacoity is a stark reminder of the rising crime wave in our state. While our Chief Minister will likely attribute this to migrants and promise swift justice, the facts tell a different story. Who brings these migrants to Goa, often exploiting them as low-wage labourers? Who awards tenders to contractors who prioritize profits over quality and engage these labourers? Who's behind the large-scale infrastructure projects and land conversions, selling to out-of-state builders, and profiting from inflated housing prices and, again, engage these labourers? Who's responsible for legalizing illegal houses through schemes like Mhaje Ghar Yojana, effectively encouraging migrant settlements? The quality of law enforcement staff is also questionable, given the fact that some positions are filled through jobs for cash. The judiciary's performance is also under scrutiny, with 9,000 pending cases in Margao Court. Isn't it time we held our leaders accountable for their actions? It's time for concrete action, not just press statements.
