The country is truly addicted to the game of cricket in every nook and corner, and other sports have taken a back seat. The players have become celebrities and also multimillionaires. This, according to me, is a major imbalance in our sports policy that needs a relook, resulting in less focus on other sports.
Parents also try to coerce their children to become cricketers and not athletes or hockey or football players. It is time that the government and people give more attention to our athletes who have made us proud in the Asian Games. Let us all, including the government, give impetus to other sports and rural sports. That is where our talent and strength lie. Why should only one sport, that is cricket, rule the roost!
