Navelim is facing growing traffic congestion, and the situation is expected to worsen with the expansion of the Higher Secondary School, an important facility for students. While this development is necessary, it also highlights the need for better traffic management. The visionary Fr. Roberto Vaz deserves appreciation for establishing the educational complex, which has brought recognition and prestige to the area.
There are several service centres in the vicinity, including banks, the panchayat office, cooperative societies, and the market. However, the panchayat has allowed structures to be built too close to each other, making traffic problems worse. While the football ground may occasionally cause traffic jams, it plays a crucial role in students’ development.
The underpass must be properly maintained and used regularly. Installing much-needed traffic signals should be a priority. The heavy traffic from the railway station that converges at the junction needs to be diverted.
