Travel on Ro-Ro ferries should be free of cost

It is learnt that one of the Ro-Ro ferries which was made operational for public on July 14 on the Ribandar-Chorao route was taken off due to a technical snag even before completing 15 days. The breakdown which happened during peak hours would have proved disastrous if it had to happen when the ferry was mid-stream. The Ro-Ro ferry which broke down was apparently the same one which saw its cable holding the ramp snap midway a few days back. Be that as it may, it comes as a shock as to how a “state-of-the-art” ferry which was inducted with much fanfare could develop a snag within such a short span of time. How could the cable holding the ramp of a brand new ferry just snap? Makes one wonder whether old material was used for building the ferry. Be that as it may, the locals have demanded a roll-back in the Ro-Ro ferry fare. Since the government has failed to provide a bridge on the route, it becomes morally imperative for the government to provide for free travel on the Ro-Ro ferries.
