In the past few days NEET has generated a lot of heat because of alleged leakage of the question papers. It is astonishing that the NAT has still not finetuned ways to conduct the prestigious medical entrance exams. Either for convenience or for some unknown reasons the printing, storage, distribution and other processes of the papers have been outsourced. The paper-setters and translators are from different places with the latter reportedly obviously having complete access to the question papers. Hence, leakage of the papers could be from anyone, including from the NAT office. There are two ways to avoid a repeat annual fiasco by NAT. Firstly, it should have its own facilities to print, safely store, guard and distribute the question papers. Outsourcing in any manner should be avoided. Secondly, adopt a system similar to that of budget preparation wherein officials are isolated from the outer world. All those involved in the NEET process would be NAT's guests and under watch. The old parliament building could be refurbished to carry out all the activities involved in the exams. The paper-setters and others will be sent back a day after the NEET exams conclude.
