Unfair to charge two-wheelers to use ferry boats

The Goa government’s consideration of levying charges for carrying two-wheelers on ferry boats across 18 routes in the State is unfair. It is surprising that they are considering imposing fees for two-wheelers and raising fees for four-wheelers. The ferry boat service is an essential lifeline for the islanders, connecting them to the mainland, and the government should focus on bridge construction before contemplating ferry charges for two-wheelers.

Moreover, the consideration of ferry charges will be exorbitant, and it appears that the government is deceiving the people in another way. The ferry service is an important mode of travel for thousands of commuters, and imposing fees will cause hardship for the common man and create a significant financial burden. Not maintaining a ferry can lead to many safety issues.

Ferry ramps need improvement, especially during rainy seasons, and shelters should be extended. The ferry service should be free of cost for commuters. People are waiting for ‘Acche Din,’ and whether this will come to fruition through this approach is uncertain.
