The BJP government has fittingly launched the Unity Day celebrations in honour of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, on his 150th birth anniversary, observed as Ekta Diwas on October 31.
While celebrating this great leader is commendable, it is disappointing that the same day marked the death anniversary of India’s first woman Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi”known for her bold decision to create Bangladesh”was ignored.
Such selective recognition raises questions about political double standards. True unity means honouring all national leaders, irrespective of party lines.
Unfortunately, as elections approach, political parties resort to exploiting divisions of caste, creed, and religion to gain votes.
It’s disheartening that in today’s digital, educated India, voters continue to be manipulated by the very leaders who claim to represent progress and national unity.
