It is disappointing that pulpit is being increasingly used for expressing views on politics and other social issues.
My experience outside the country has convinced me that it is used entirely to propagate and strengthen faith.
However, there is truth to show how some are motivated by partisan inclinations and compensatory considerations.
Today, the captive followers do not need the political expertise that is thrust on them unsolicited. By and large faithful are much more educated and knowledgeable to swallow such pearls of wisdom in a one sided blast and thunder.
The sanctity of the pulpit must be maintained to preach the Gospel and not to draw comparisons and take even indirect shots at other faiths even remotely.
I have noticed that most sermons are from a prepared draft, which has also to be forwarded to the authorities as a matter of caution.
To avoid social disturbances and maintain religious harmony the authorities must issue a dictat not to use pulpit for political awareness or otherwise.
Religion is a personal matter and individual opinion must be respected. Those who lead must adhere to maximum restraint and keep their personal views aside.
