The success of the polio vaccination drive globally can be attributed to the fact that the recipients were only children up to the age of five years who were largely healthy without any comorbidities. The campaign worldwide against polio has resulted in almost complete eradication of the disease. However, the same cannot be said about the various vaccines that are being developed for Covid-19. These vaccines are meant for inoculation across all age groups and on people with comorbidities. It would therefore be prudent for pharmaceutical companies that are on the last leg of human trials to test these vaccines on those who have specific comorbidities. This will allow them to research the effect of these vaccines on each ailment that the volunteers are being tested for. These human trials should be conducted on people suffering from one comorbidity or a combination of more than one of them in order to eradicate ill-effects post-vaccination which might lead to health complications. These companies should then reveal their findings. Though this process will delay the launch of the vaccines, it will benefit patients suffering from comorbidities. It is widely known that vaccines are not developed within a year, as the trials have to be thorough and comprehensive.
