Vasco-da-Gama happens to be one of the major cities of Goa. However while other cities have seen development in various degrees, it must be said that Vasco has been lagging behind by several years.
There has hardly been any developmental work carried out in the port town which deserves a mention. Barring two major projects carried out in the past several years including the clearing of Baina of the red-light area and the completion of the highway from Varnapuri to Sada, Vasco has barely seen any development.
Several projects have either not commenced or are moving at a snail’s pace. The Vasco fish market project is gathering dust. The promised Kadamba bus stand has been at a standstill. The new fire station in place of the one demolished five years back has not been completed.
Vasco happens to be one of the best planned cities. The Swatantra Path happens to be one of the best promenades in Goa. However Vasco faces a plethora of problems including lack of parking space, encroachment, roads that need hot-mixing, etc.
During the coming elections Vascoites need to vote for development as the city has to regain its past glory.
