It is learnt that henceforth, 'visible violations' like not wearing helmets, seatbelts, riding triple seat, riding on the wrong side will be the cases in which police will be able to penalize. Document verification will only be done in the presence of a Police Inspector or Deputy Superintendent of Police. This is being done as there have been reports that traffic police are needlessly stopping vehicles for want of checking of requisite documents thereby causing inconvenience. The main role of traffic police is to monitor the traffic flow and focus on ensuring that traffic goes smoothly. However on the flip side it must be said that drunken driving is a major issue in the state which has led to several accidents, many of them fatal. Drunken driving cannot be classified as a ‘visible violation’ and can be detected only by stopping the vehicle and subjecting the rider/ driver to an alcohol test. Driving without a driving license is also not a 'visible violation'. These cases can be detected only if the vehicle is stopped and documents verified.
