Vigilantism not possible without state patronage

Prevention is better than cure. Police must be able to enforce law and order and nobody should feel the need or dare to take things into their own hands! But we have vigilantes, party strong men, NGOs, religious policing, etc doing so with impunity. This would not be possible without state patronage or police incompetence. In the light of the land scam mastermind Suleman being helped and even driven out of jail by a duty constable, this is a sorry state of affairs. President of the meat traders association says, " We are answerable to the government authorities like animal husbandry, Goa meat complex doctors, police but since the last month activists and cow vigilante groups have started attacking our long standing business".  What use any action after the deed is done? The people in the business, hotels and their customers and demand in this festive season all suffer when these vigilantes have accomplished their job by being permitted free reign. The CM has promised to take strict action against anyone trying to take law into their own hands. We live in hope for a better future.
