I have noticed that after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced free water scheme for Goans from September 1, most of the tanks in the Panaji city which have no lids and no stop valves have been seen overflowing. It is a wastage of water plus loss to the exchequer as the water meters keep on running until the water is stopped.
Now, we have free water round the clock which needs to be discontinued until tank lids are closed and stop valves are repaired.
Government must inform the consumers about their pending repairs and give instructions to PWD to inspect both tanks, the underground as well as overhead tanks. Until then the chief minister should order the water department not to release excess water which is a wastage. Also many water pipes lines are found leaking and need to be examined including those after repairs being done by the contractors.
