The Goa Police have still not managed to arrest the real culprit believed to be behind the brutal murder of two people whose throats were slit last Thursday in a rented house at Muddawado, Saligao. This shows how slow the police are in catching criminals in the State, despite having modern tools such as mobile tracking apps and CCTV cameras installed at major bus stands, railway stations, and highways across Goa. Leaving aside this double murder case, the same police department has also failed to solve the Mapusa dacoity case, even after nearly a month. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant continues to defend the police on various platforms, saying their investigations are “on the right track” and that arrests will be made soon. But the big question remains”when? In the Saligao double murder case, the police may soon produce someone with his face covered, spin a dramatic story, claim he is the accused, send him to jail for a while, and then let him hire a lawyer before quietly walking free. Sadly, this is how the Goa Police often operate. Yet people still expect them to crack major crimes and catch dangerous offenders who come here, commit their crimes, and return home like heroes from a Hindi film.
