Politicians in Goa have always been selfish with vested interests. The same people whose family members tried in the past to usurp Church properties and other assets now boldly proclaim that there is no need to set up Minorities Commission in Goa. On earth your political opponents will rinse you in their washing machines and give you clean chit to change sides and reverse their impression about you so long you toe their line but up there be prepared to face the consequences of your actions here on earth. Another disturbing thing is the way government officials protect the politicians. Recently there was an expose of 21K DSS Scheme bogus beneficiaries (mostly non-Goans) whose applications were all recommended by MLAs and MPs. But an RTI application to Social welfare department to know the number of such beneficiaries recommended by these MLAs and MPs received an evasive response stating such details are not maintained in their systems. But the same department has put up data on the website showing details of about one lakh of genuine beneficiaries availing the scheme.
