Apropos to the report "ECI team arrives in State to assess ground situation" (The Goan Everyday, December 21, 2021). Goa is all set to vote for the assembly elections in February 2022. To take stock of the preparations for this mammoth exercise called elections a delegation from the Election Commission of India made a silent entry into our politically tumultuous state.
Had a political bigwig landed in Goa, his / her party colleagues would have put up a grand show of welcoming him / her complete with loud sloganeering outside the arrival zone. Soon SM platforms would have seen pics of that tall leader receiving welcome bouquets and garlands from his / her party functionaries wishing him / her a pleasant stay in Goa. The unsung heroes are in Goa. They received a low-key welcome. Nobody welcomed them with garlands and bouquets. Their job is to ensure free and fair elections so that people of Goa can deliver their verdict fearlessly and heave a sigh of relief for next five years. Let us take this opportunity to welcome the ECI delegation to Goa. People of Goa wish them a pleasant stay.
