Hungry dogs will relish crumbs thrown at them or the waste that is unfit for consumption. It is the love, power, position, perks that make all parties to throw some sops to the people prior to election to woo them. Lady voters are now a big catch as they exercise their franchise in numbers. But 33.5 per cent reservation is nowhere in sight even with ruling party having brute majority. That is one million dollar question for the emancipation of women. Hence all hype of gas price reduction labelled as subsidy is hog wash. Women's representation in Parliament, Rajya Sabha, State assemblies is a pittance.Why limit it at local bodies alone? Equal pay for equal work, laws of inheritance affect women. The crimes against women, deprivation of education, rapes, murders, foeticide, trafficking have not been addressed to their advantage. The benefits of low cost of fuel have not been passed on to the consumers. After the elections are over, prices will rise to justify increased international costs wars and Covid et all.
