It must be said the ongoing construction work of the six-lane elevated corridor at Porvorim is causing untold misery to the general public, especially the road users. The severe dust pollution is posing danger to life. There is traffic congestion due to major hurdles caused by illegal construction. Some drivers are not adhering to the diversion as they have to take the long route. A ban has been imposed on the entry of heavy vehicles at Porvorim on the National Highway-66 until the completion of the elevated corridor project. It is common knowledge that the months of November and December are the busiest months when tourists come to Goa in droves. The decennial Exposition of the relics of St. Francis Xavier will attract lakhs of devotees and visitors from across the globe. Then there is the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) that is happening followed by the festive season. All the chaos on the roads makes one wonder whether the work of the elevated corridor at Porvorim is ill-timed. The work could have commenced after January 15, 2025 when there will be less traffic on the roads.
