‘Mhaji Lab, Bari Lab’ yet to be implemented

The ‘Mhaji Lab, Bari Lab’ scheme has yet to be taken up by the state government, which is applicable to all government schools and government-aided schools under the Directorate of Education of the Government of Goa.

The government had provided and facilitated ICT (Information and Communication Technology) to laboratories in most schools to ensure proper promotion of ICT skills in students in Goa and to make the students equipped for the digital world. But it is yet to be implemented.

The scheme is to recognise the hard work of the staff of the ICT Laboratory and to give an impetus and encouragement to them by conferring awards for their contribution in the field of ICT. There is a need to pay greater attention when investments are made to set up computer labs. While labs are set up, no provisions are made for ongoing maintenance. After setting up the labs, they also need to ensure that the school has a computer teacher so that resources are adequately used. A state like Kerala is an exception.
