3 days not enough for an Assembly session

Just a three-day Assembly session with 13 Bills lined up for discussion and passage. Godspeed, surely! The Opposition seems justified in protesting against the curtailed Assembly session. Seriously, what meaningful discussion can take place in just three days? It is like having a three-day working week in the corporate sector.

Lawmakers must take their responsibilities seriously and ensure that there is a proper and strict work schedule for all elected representatives, whether in Parliament, State Assemblies or civic bodies. Any takers?

It was shocking to read the news report ‘Birch fire fallout: Calangute p’yat seals 8 establishments’ (TGE, Aug 22). Even more shocking was the admission by Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira that, besides the eight nightclubs, nine other establishments were operating for several years without obtaining the necessary approvals.The question, therefore, is why no action was taken by the Calangute panchayat all these years?
